.....Ah, Harvey...it's you again and still on this theme of trying to solicit affirmations about the value of being gifted. This someone you know, it's you, isn't it?
If you are, indeed, gifted, that's a nice thing. But giftedness is worthless unless you apply it in the real world. It's like having a powerful computer with bad programs and bad data. If you have emotional problems, I encourage you to get help and work them out...they are keeping you from using your wonderful gifts.
I know you can do it. A good mind should be put to good use. Good luck!

The lord giveth and the lord taketh away. It seems to me that there is only so much a person can give. think of a person as having certain attribute points given to them. Lets say 100 points. Some people are given moe points than other but lets say on average you get 100 points. If it was a gamelike a video game you would spread those points in different areas to help your character survive better. The thing is that speding too many points in one area means having low points in others.
For example most athletes are good at sports but stereotipically speaking are bad at school. They are good with women though so a stat for a good athlete would go something like.
athletism 45 points
women skill 45 points
school 2 points
others 3 points.
a nerd ,may look more like this
science and technology 60 points
social skills 5 points
physical attributes 5 points
well dressed skills 5 points
others .....
You get the idea. I mean is stereotipical but it does seems that way. The point is that you cannot be great at everything just as you cannot be bad at everything. So, excelling at somethings means sacrifising other things. This is ogical because in order to get good at something you have to spent tme doing it meaning you spent less time on other stuff. So, your friend is quite normal in the sence that since he/she is extraordinary in one are he must suffer in another.

Do you actually know Most People? Wow, that's a lot of people. I hardly know half as many and I thought I knew Everybody. Aren't there about 7 Billion people on the planet? Before I could shake hands with everyone I would have severe arthritis, my Mom says. Of course she thinks a big cat coughed up the Universe like a hairball.

Yes that just prove he is still a human being, otherwise he or she could be so perfect. In a way each of us has our own achilles heels, some imperfections and flaws, this makes us unique individuals and have colorful lives.

people who are capable of seeing under the layer of things like this individual can see under the layer of our society and existence and can leave a person on the brink of tears and one small penny can derail the whole train at that point. Especially in adolesence

I've always thought that giftedness & emotional issues go hand-in-hand. Theres something to be said for not thinking too much maybe.

yes it does. Just because some things come easier than others doesn't mean that we don't have problems. My best advice is to be a good friend

I have heard it said that there is a fine line between true genius and mental instability. There is a movie called Shine that illustrates this really well...

Yep, emotionally tormented genius. It really isn't his fault, because it could be some chemical imbalances or just misunderstood for his dominance at being talented.
