Where did you get your certification? Was it worth it? Have you made a career out of it or do you practice on the side, or just as a hobby? I'm curious. Any info would be appreciated.

If you don't know anything about astrology then please don't answer...there are plenty of other opportunities to get two points. Yes, it's possible to become a certified astrologer...yes, there are institutes for that...no, astrology is not just gimmicky magazine horoscopes. I just need opinions and experience from real astrologers here. Thanks.

I have been certified up to Level III with the NCGR (Nat'l Council for Geo-Cosmic Research). Level IV is professional astrologer. Level V is teaching astrologer. I got up to Level III in 1985 and then got lazy. There are other astrological organizations in the U.S. The AFA is one... American Federation of Astrologers.

I haven't made a full career out of it because I prefer to have a varied career, so I also write and do graphic design work. Since 1985, I have done about 400 astrology readings. I did a lot the first few years, but I cut back and only do maybe ten a year since.

Since learning and practicing astrology, I have also learned much about human behavior and learned much about ways of approaching life. There are aspects of psychological counseling that go along with chart reading, so there are always new things to learn. And along the way I have come to understand better many mystical concepts and precepts, and have altered my life here and there to improve things. So yes, very much so, it was worth it.

There are those who have made a full living with astrology, though usually those people also teach and write books, too. The better-known astrologers can command nice fees and have a waiting list for appointments.

Anything else you wanna know?

ADDED LATER: I attend a monthly Astrology Meetup via Meetup.com and the guy who is the group "leader" is attending Kepler College online... and based on conversations I have had with him, they are putting him through the paces! He will be quite knowledgable when he is done.

Besides the outline given by the NCGR group (as noted above) there is also Kepler College, offering university level classwork for those who wish to have a full degree in this sort of study. There is also an institute of higher learning in England offering a Masters degree in astrology, if I remember correctly.

I have not met anyone who has completed these classes. The number of graduates is less than 100, I believe. That could be an erroneous number. Have met a few people who have gone thru the basic NCGR work.

Also, Noel Tyl has a special course for astrologers to study with him. It is very costly - right up there with any other price for coursework at a university. He does give you a certification of completion of his work. Whether it is acknowledged by others in the community, I don't know.
