IF people are going to "boycott" gas on May 15th, then there will be a LOT of people needing gasoline on the 16th (and 14th, for that matter).

If I were Shell, I would make my gas $6.00 a gallon on those two days, to show people what good a boycott does.

Do people really think gas prices have to do with anything other than supply and demand???

No, gas prices will not jump to $6 a gallon on May 16. There are many factors that determine the cost of gas, but all of them can be traced back to basic supply and demand principles.

People are stupid. The problem with gas prices is 1) War in Iraq, and 2) no matter how much gas costs, people still buy the same amount. If people would just stop driving so darn much, we wouldn't have this problem. And if they think that 1 day of no gas would hurt them, which it could, but not if they know about it. Try not buying gas from 5/15 - 12/20, then you might make a difference for the better.

Oil prices now are not at extreme levels by any means. The main bottleneck here is the fact that US Refineries cannot keep up with the summer demand for gas.

When supply stays constant and demand increases, price will increase. Its simple economics.

That said, Exxon mobil and other oil companies turned record profits last year. This boycott might help them play a more humane roll and sacrifice some of their billions in profits to keep prices at regular levels.

MSNBC reported last week that gas prices may get to $4.00 in auto hotbeds like California, but will decrease as summer goes on.

We just need more refineries in the US to keep prices down, but they take up hundreds of acres of land and who wants one in their backyard?

No commodity's price is completely up to only supply and demand. There is always someone trying to somehow get the most money they can. If it were only up to supply and demand, there wouldn't be a 7-11 charging $2.80 a gallon across the street from a 76 Station charging $3.10 a gallon.

Boycott or No Boycott. Gas prices will always look at the sky. Thanks to the friendship between strong oil lobby and the rulers. Oil cartel has the strongest bond. They will always be successful in squeezing oil out of the ordinary citizens. $6.00 is just a figure.

This protest thing is a hoax. Never has one of these protests actually worked, because people still have to fill up at some point. A real protest would be getting people to actually CONSUME less on the 15th by taking public trtansportation when availible. But of course that would mean people would really have care about the issue instead of thinking that by not filling up at the pump on one day will actually make a difference.

I think gas prices are way TOO LOW now...

Americans cry about how much they pay and
yet we are paying the lowest prices when you
look at the charts of gas prices around the world.
And we're the ones PAYING over 500 BILLION for
Bushie's war!

I personally hope gas prices go to $5-$6+ this summer...
I don't have a car..so I'll just laugh & laugh at all the
spoiled folks crying about the cost of gas...chumps!

I really don't think we have an oil shortage. You can be naive to think it is a supply and demand issue, but it is really a price gauging issue.

The answer is fuel alternatives. Since we seem to advance so quickly in the tech world, I really don't see why we can't get an efficient oil alternative that might not pollute the environment so much.

something cheaper and safer.
