Football (as in soccer) is clearly the most popular sport in the world, which would arguably qualify it as the best as seen by the world.
American Football is the most popular sport in the US (and I would argue the best in US) but clearly not in the world due to the failure to even latch on in Europe outside of Germany. American fans simply do not represent a majority of the world so American Football is likely not even rated in top 5 in popularity across the world.

This is a very silly question. Trying to say that any particular sport is "the best sport in the world" is total BS. However, the most popular sport in the world is soccer.

Soccer is the most played sport anywhere in the world, look it up as far as participation in a sport goes it is even the most participated sport right here in the USA in europe soccer is the only sport everything else is a commercial.

no football isn't considered best sport in world. but it is the best and greatest sport in USA. the last truly great team sport, where teammates truly go to war with one another.
i have never played hockey. but the other sports i have coached and played. so who cares what the rest of the world thinks.
