World-renowned explorer Giuseppi Linguini is preparing to sail around the world. Unfortunately, he is not very organized and is not sure what he should bring on the trip. Here is some important information about his voyage:

a. Giuseppi is going to leave on a Saturday at 5:00 AM.

b. His boat travels an average of 528 miles per 24 hour day.

c. The voyage is 24,684 miles long.

d. Giuseppi uses 3.5 gallons of water per day.

e. He consumes 3/4 of a pound of dried meat per day except on Fridays (he plans to substitute three fish each Friday).

f. He plans to stop on days 4 and 5 on an island to visit a friend. During these 48 hours he plans to eat with the island residents and will use the food and water from the island, thereby conserving his supplies.

g. He also plans to stop on days 27 and 28 on an island to visit his brother. During these 48 hours he plans to eat with his brother's family and will use the food and water they provide, thereby conserving his supplies.

Your task this week is to use the given information to help complete the plans for Giuseppi's trip:

1. On what day of the week will he return?

2. What time of day will he return?

3. How much water will he need?

4. How much fish will he need?

First there his moving along days - when he is in the boat moving along. They are 24684 /528 = 46.75 days

Then there are his stopping days = 96hrs= 4 days more

So he travelled for 51 days. In weeks that is 50.75/7 = 7 weeks and a quarter of a week. You have to call that 7 weeks plus almost three days. The weeks won't change his arrival day but when you look at Saturday of the last week he arrives three days after that week's Saturday. That means he arrives on a TUESDAY which is answer 1.

The fraction of a day (.75) is 18 hours so he arrives 18 hours after 5AM which is 6 hours after 5PM. That makes it 11PM for the second answer.

He needs water for the going along days of which there are 46.75, so at 3.5 gallons per day that is 163.625 gallons (assuming he never brushes his teeth). So 164 GALLONS is the third answer (assuming he might want to brush them when he greets people at the end of the trip.)

For the fish he needs three per Friday. In the 7.75 weeks there are 7 Fridays (but the first island visit is on a Friday so that makes it 6) so he needs 18 fish. So 18 is the fourth answer.

For meat he will need it for all the going along days (except for the Fridays). That is 46.75-6 = 36.75 days to eat meat. At .75 pounds meat per going day that is 39.75 x .75 = 27.5 so call that 28 pounds of dried meat for the last answer.

Not going to do the math, but I want to point out that he can catch the fish and replenish his meat and water supplies on the islands.
