my friend says that to catch them all that you need all the previous pokemon games to catch themm all because he said that there are 407 pokemon. is this true or do you only need a copy of diamond and pearl to catxh them all?

yes it is true you need the previous games or you need to trade with a friend that has the games. if that wasnt the game would be to long of a game and that many pokemon and ifo is hard to put on one conponent

Yes it is true, but you can only obtain the pokemon by migrating them from previous games to Pal Park. When you migrate them, you do not trad at all, but the other person gives you for free sixx of their pokemon from the PC or slots. Once you migrate them, the other person cannot get his/her pokemon back. When you go to pal park, you must catch all six of those given up pokemon before you can migrate again. Keep in mind that this is not like the Safari Zone in other games where you cannot use your pokemon. You can use your pokemon, and the migrated pokemon will still be at their respective levels that they were at when they were migrated. Pal Park is opened once you SEE all of the 4th edition pokemon of the Sinnoh region. Once you do so, go to proffessor Rowans lab, and proffessor Oak will rush in and give you the national Dex.

Yes, if you want to get the independently you'll need all the games, the event passes for each game and a lot of time.
However, with Diamond and Pearl you can trade online or go to the global trade station and trade for the ones that you need.
In total, there are 493 Pokemon.

well...i do understand ur concern about not being able to obtain all the pokemon (well...actually, i dont)...anyways...yea, u do need the previous pokemon games....however...there is the wifi trade that u can use to get those pokemon from other people...and anyways...y would u want all teh pokemon...i can understand u wanting a select few (salamence, metagross, tyranitar, snorlax, etc) but c'mon...who gives about every pokemon...

yes very true. i do believe there are 497 pokemon in the nation dex though not 407.
