Consider the alternative. Dead as a stump, and no plans. Being a being, is to say, awake enough to know you don't have all the answers, can be nerve racking. Do you have enough stuff, can you get more stuff, is stuff what it's all about, is stuff gonna be enough. Did the High Deity mean for you to be lost in a sea of stuff. Is life gonna knock the stuffing out of you? Life doesn't care a tinkers damn what we think. Thinking is just a fancy word to help us tolerate the confusion. We organize stuff by organizing our thinking. Life is set up to produce as many possible variations on a theme as is allowed under the limitations of the system. Life works with or without or opinion of it. So life doesn't care. But life is the end product of several zillion joules of energy reversed into matter. The production of matter seems to be consistent with the idea that life was the goal of the big bang. Life also has to be able to reproduce without any given directions. On it's own life must survive. And it does. Life needs to procreate. Everything alive spends a lot of time either procreating or taking care of the off spring. We can witness the effects of life, and we are the conscious type of life that loves to witness and procreat at the same time. We write it all down, and procreat and keep tons of stuff around. The purpose of life is to not be a rock, and have a good time doing it.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Experience. Matter and Energy are equal and constant, therefore there is re-incarnation. At death life is energy like a drop of water in the ocean and may not be brought all back in one new life, but seperated. With experience, we have the possibility of keeping more of ourselves 'together' upon re-birth. No guarantee, but it can't hurt and helps us while we are here and have faith in the unknown.
