No,definitely not because its the greatest distraction and will not allow you or those around you to concentrate. The only way is have it switched off before entering the class.theres no need for cell phones in the class room unless ofcourse they dont want to study and create nuisance just for fun.Not only are the students distracted but if it rings or sms comes on it then the teacher and the whole class losses concentration. This is not conducive for proper teaching as once the teacher has lost the thread of her thought stream then to get it back again takes time with the result in loss of important time and effort.

No, they do not belong in the classroom. They are way too distracting to certain students (usually the ones who really need to pay attention!) for one reason and as an older person who grew up in a pre-cell phone era I honestly don't think kids need them as much as they think they do. Cell phones are social tools that kids think are necessities. They aren't. All the schools I have subbed in do not allow cell phones in the classroom. Cell phones are taken away and given to the principal when I find a student texting or talking on one.

A lot of parents have given the kids these cell phones for safety. But that would make cheating awfully easy, not to mention the kid could be chattering about anything but what they're supposed to be learning.
I suppose as long as the cell phone stays in the tote/backpack/whatever unless it is needed, it's all right. The shooter at Va. Tech comes to mind here. But you know your students better than I do.

I dont see why they shouldnt be allowed to have them in class but a few rules must apply.
1. It must be turned to silent.
2. They must stay in their purses or pockets.
If the rules are not follwed, take them until after class is over. I would get mad if I was teaching a class and a phone rang.

No. It's hard enough keeping things relatively focussed without that. There's enough to deal with already without the periodic disruptions caused by cells. You don't have enough time to cover everything you want as it is, and every distraction costs you time and loses some attention.

No because if they can get there hands on them they could text answers to their friend on a test or even text love notes or maybe even disrupting the class while the teacher is talking!

Sure, why not? As long as they don't call each other during class there isn't a reason to keep them from having them in class.

well the kids had an argument with the teachers and we didn't win......there is kinda of a reason to have one, but not to really use it...the odds are against us, but that doesn't mean it's not good not to have one, it just means that they're more possiblities that you actually don't need it

They can have it on the following conditions: the phone is turned off or on vibrate. If they have to call 911 they can use their phone.

Allowed, yes. Turned on - probably not. However, I do tolerate them. All I ask is that they be turned on silent.
