Mine....( in no order) Not really the best cites, but the ones with the most past, and history and need for their team...

Meaning these are the 5 cites that the fans would go INSANE if they lost their teams...

i like the Detroit idea, especially since the q. asked for cities not teams. the Dodgers replace the Tigers if you count their yrs. in Brooklyn also.

In alphabetical order Boston, Chicago, LA, New York, St Louis. Think about this fenway is the olddest and smallest park in the MLB but has been upgraded simly because the fans have so much history and nostalgia wth that team and stadium, that team means more to that town then the celtics, pats, and bruins, combined. NY is divedided not by buroughs or water but by two teams the mets and yankees. I know NYers that are stil dodgers fans, and still refer to them as the brooklyn ddgers, you wot call anyone chearing for the philadelphia athletics, or the milwalkee braves. Chcago is the same diveded between north side and south side by the soxs and cubs, LA is slightly different I actually knw people wh are fans of bth claiming they can be because its AL and NL, and finaly St Louis, if youve ever been to a game it is a sea of red and white and most fans can tell you about how the saw ozzie smith play when they where ten. All these cities have love affairs with there teams, put baseball first, have incredible attentdance numbers and overall would riot in the streets for days at the thought of there teams going anywhere.

edit: Philadelphia still has Pittsburgh and vice versa, Cleveland hasn't done anything since 1997 --- which they lost to Florida (?!?!?!), LA only has Kirk Gibson and San Fran only has Steroid Boy, their extensive history was in New York. Detroit has the distinction of the worst record in baseball. Oakland would be a good pick, but shame on you people for not picking Atlanta. Despite my hatred towards that team (represent METS!), they are the most recognizable NL team because of what they've accomplished since 1989.

Each, at one time in the past or continuing today, was home to two teams (three in NY) with enough success (ticket sales) to stay in place for at least five decades. And the love of baseball in each city continues strongly today, with unbelievably enthusiastic (in some cases, deranged) fandom ready to cheer or criticize.

i agree w/ all your cities except la. maybe replace la w/ like atlanta or pitt. like someone mentioned above, la doesn't care if they have a team or not and i live in la. i've been to home games in ny, sf, oak, sd, anaheim, sea, & arlington(tx) and chavez rivine(la) was the only stadium where about 40% of the fans show up to the game in the 2nd/3rd inning and leave before the 8th. anaheim is a lil better but at chavez rivine, the ppl seem like they are there to kill time or to have a family night out, rather than being there to support their team. last year when the dodgers didnt have their names on the back, i've heard quite a few fans rooting for a player by their number like
"c'mon #3, hit that ball out of the park"

had to break it to him that cesar izturis doesn't take too many pitches deep.
