Significance? How about the fact that the atoms that make up your computer, as well as your own body, were once part of the sun? The entire Earth as well as every atom in you were once part of the Sun 5 Billion years ago. It formed out of a Nebula which was the remains of a previous super nova explosion before that. Another words...we were also once part of another Star before the Sun as well. Nothing is as significant as the Sun. It gave birth to us and continues to keep us alive now. (You might call it our mother.) If you ever wanted to be a "Star"...remember that you actually were. (At least 2 (and maybe 3) times before.)

Great last answer, but just to add something that most people have no concept of

The sun is 1.3 million times the volume of the Earth, and about a third of million times the mass (weight).

But it is also 1000, yes 1000, times the size of all its planets put together. That means 99.9% of the Solar System is the sun.

I would say that is quite significant.

Every single bit of energy we use on Earth was delivered by the sun, at some point.
