Let's face it - despite their meaningless mathematics and self-defensive blather, a slight risk of causing the end of the world is STILL A RISK! A risk not worth taking. So why is this experiment being allowed to continue?
Is it because the American government is financing it? Because the American business/politics elite - which is full of Christians - are financing it because they WANT to bring about the end of the world in order to bring us "before god" for "judgement"?
Shouldn't the rest of the world - captained by Switzerland - be going to war with America over this?!

John W, can you direct me to some CONVINCING evidence that the LHC is safe? Because, I've heard all this talk about how we can't even create and sustain a black hole comparable to the most microscopic ones in space, and it all sounds to me like the dangerously self-deceptive faulty science spouted by global warming deniers!!
And, like I said before, a one-in-five-million chance is still a chance that we can't take where matters of this magnitude are concerned!

America is not the driving force behind the LHC. America is participating, but the Europeans are quite proud to be taking the lead on this one. And the French and Swiss are quite happy to be benefitting economically from all the investment in the area.

As for destroying the planet by creating a strangelet or a stable black hole.... Go back to your science fiction reading.

The idea that anyone in America's Christian right wing could even be smart enough to hatch such a plan would be laughable even if it were physically possible.

meaningless mathematics!!!!!!!! do not try to argue about things on which you have no understanding.

I will rather than try to convince you about the science on which you obviously understand nothing instead address some of your slightly more worrying points. so rather than a particle accelerator which you believe has a small chance of destroying the world you would rather a war to stop it. this would involve nuclear wepons and certainly destroy most of civilisation as we know it. then we move onto your American hating parts. i am no fan of America in general but to suggest that they want to destroy the world to bring us before god is quite frankly crazy. if they wanted to do this they would just release their nuclear arsenal and be done with it. oh and its mostly an EU project we have just outsourced some of the construction to America.

anyway to answer your actual question now iv had my rant. the LHC will hopefully discover the higgs boson which is supposedly the origin of mass. however this is only many experiments that will be carried out within it allowing us to answer some of the most fundamental questions in physics

If we end the world accidently by trying to understand it better then so be it! Wouldn't you prefer to be wiped out by something freaky and accidental like that than by two or more nuclear powers fighting over natural resources?

And what if they don't end the world? What if they succeed,or have succeeded, in creating a new universe? What if we are just the result of some other beings experiment in accelerating particles and crashing them into each other? The dawn of the universe to us might have been only a millisecond ago to our creator/scientist... Who knows? If you really care make a sign and stand outside their door in protest!

Its being continued because the chief scientists have mathmaticaly calculated that it WON'T cause any destruction and if it did create a miniscule black hole it would simply fizzle out.
The aim is realy to create the conditions that were present a billionth of a second after the big bang and find the fundamental particles of matter

There is no slight change of causing the end of the world. Some idiot media person got a hold of a "what if" and ran with it and every believes it and that media guy probably doesn't even know what an atom is. Get real! You sounds like a real bigot.

Try & TRy until we succeed or die, that the policy of the human beings n these aspects, since the world has already become untolerable to live-in.
