usually it's an oral solution for the baby and potentially a solution for mom's nipples....but don't stop breastfeeding!http://www.lalecheleague.org/FAQ/thrush.html

My mother had to worry about that after she had my youngest sister and the doctor gave her some medicine for the baby. It was purple medicine called something Violet and the doctor told her to apply it in the babies mouth and also to her breast otherwise it will continue to get passed from baby to mother and mother back to baby. Once she started using the medicine on both the baby and her breast the thrush went away. But definetly talk to your doctor to get the best advice b/c it is a medical condition. Best of luck to you with the new baby!

this happend to me when my daughter 1st born the doc prescribed a cream i had to put on my nipples but had to wash it off before breastfeeding her. she was given some medicine. It is hard remembering to keep putting on and cleaning off the cream but if you don't you keep passing the thrush back and forward. can't script from doc. the safest thing to do.

Gentian violet

It is better than prescribed medications because the yeast organism is becoming resistant.

Also I would look into probiotics.

get a doctors view on this one espically when a baby is concerned, and i wouldn't use canesten on ur nipples it might harm the baby while feeding
