I'm 13.5 weeks with baby#1. I normally would love nothing more than to eat SunChips (which are salty), now lately, nothing tastes better than ice cream with chocolate syrup or fruit snacks or a sweet treat. Would you say i'm having a girl or just changing in hormones and tastebuds that the salt is being replaced by sweets now? What do you think? (just for fun, of course nobody can be sure until we know for sure...) Thanks

Like u said, nothing is wrong with the old wives tales for some old fashioned fun. The old wives tale does say that if u crave salty its a boy and sweets its a girl...I would have to say its 50/50 from experience. With my daughter i craved everything (especially pickle juice which was very salty and sour to ice cream and pizza)...with my son i pigged on cookies and pickles like crazy...with this pregnancy i have been craving sweets CONSTANTLY and im having a boy! so its a toss up...not too much longer to see on ultrasound..good luck!

Its your hormones and tastebuds changing, Never believe them old wivestales about determining sex of the baby, I had so many people bet their lives that my first child was a boy, from way i was feeling, carrying all kinds of things. And I have a 4 year old daughter. And now w/ this pregnancy everyone was saying its another girl, and I found out it was a boy. so I never go by them old wivestales at all. I do know what you mean about taste changing before I was pregnant w/ my lilgirl I hated corn, and while I was pregnant I ate it and still like it to this day. And w/ this pregnancy my 2nd trimester was all salty stuff and spicey, now that I'm 30 weeks pregnant I cant stop craving sweet stuff and chocolate.

You'e going to have another what? four or five months to go? I would say you just want sweets because you do, and if it's not all the time, what harm can there be? I craved Marathon candy bars (now no longer made) the whole while I carried my baby girl, (ignore the avatar--it looks like a man, which I'm not) and Three Musketeers with my son, so maybe the name of the candy determines the child's sex. Wow! A whole new way of determing if it's a boy or a girl!
Seriously, though, congratualtions. Hope everything goes well and you actually get to sleep in the first year.

One time when I was in my first trimester, I craved ice cream. Other than that I haven't wanted anything sweet. I'm having a boy. So if I had to guess I would say girl=) And changing tastebuds happen all the time. Nothing sounds good to me for more than 20 minutes lol. Good luck & Congrats!

Honey, right now your hormones are going crazy. You're only 13.5 weeks pregnant. The biological changes that have given your baby male or female gentilia have only just begun!!

I would wait a few weeks. I'm at 20 weeks now, and they STILL don't know!!!

With my son I craved sweets, and this time I'm craving sweets too though we're hoping for a girl. Each pregnancy is different.

Your cravings do not predict the sex of your baby, though we all wish it was that easy. Your cravings will change regularly.

Satisfy them, but do not indulge in them. Make sure that you are still eating healthy. Never over do it on your cravings whether sugar or salt.

Don't do like I did. I was 8 months pregnant for my son and I had a VERY strong craving for ice cream. By the end of my pregnancy I had about 6 different types of ice cream all stored in my freezer.

My tastes changed around then, too. In my first trimester, I wanted salt and vinegar chips and pickles all the time. In the second, I wanted brownies and hot fudge sundaes. Who knows?
I'm having a boy.

totally normal to crave sweets more now. i actually really craved sweet and salts together when i was pregnant. like kettle corn, carmel apples with peanuts, honey roasted peanuts... you name it! try these snacks! they were wonderful because they satisfied both cravings for sugar and salt. =)
