can anyone help me write out the balanced chemical equation using these four species: Co(H2O)6^2+ , CoCl4^2-, Cl- , and H2O. Explain how you determined the equation. also. How do i know if the reaction is written endothermic or exothermic? im getting really confused. thanks.

CO(H2O)6+ (aq) + 4 Cl- (aq) ---> COCl4 2- (aq) + 6 H2O (g)

endothermic

[Co(H2O)6]2+ + 4Cl- -----> [CoCl4]2- + 6H2O

This is an example of ligand displacement, and you could look up this phrase.

The reaction is one described as entropy driven, which you should also look up.
