Well, I loved going to bf's, ex-hubby (then current...), brothers & Dad for projects. Kinda made me feel special and that they were needed.
But, times change, and I married a fully disabled gentleman who needs me to assist him in some daily duties. So, it is left up to me to do minor repairs & do-dads. So, no longer can I just claim 'duh' and call for help. Yes, my brothers can help once in a while, but I prefer to not pull on their help as often now because I don't want now TWO people to appear as "needy", so I tackle problems first myself.
Eventually, I'll get some home-fixit books when Patrick & I get a home. For now, we're just in an apartment setting, so some help is thru the property mgmt company. I still try to teach myself as I go. I should know this stuff, anyway. And, it's a good learning curve. It's not always fun being dependent on people, too.
All-in-all there are things that guys are natural at, and females are natural at. It's nice to be able to kinda lean on each other every now & again. For now, I'm doing fine, learnin' 'bout things!

Yep, I can do it pretty much all by myself.
Decorating - piece of cake; I've put together so much furniture that I could go into business. LOL
Gardening - no problems. Lawn - allergic, but cut the cr@p anyway. LOL
Repairs - I can repair just about anything that isn't electrical; I just don't want to mess with that.
Maintenance - I can do pretty much all that myself too.

I'm pretty much self sufficient when it comes to stuff like that. I'll turn my hand to anything. Only time i ask for help is if it's a two person job and then the brother in law gets a call.

I try really hard. I can decorate, garden, handle general maintenance but when it comes to repairs, I sometimes need help. Yes, I either call a friend or my parents. I break things easily too ( the garbage disposal, garage door, lawn mower...) so I know how to fix these now, but I still struggle sometimes.

I used to be a fix it yourself type gal. I've even replaced pipes and toilets myself. Spackle walls, refinish furniture. I've always been good at that kind of thing. I really enjoyed it.
Now since I'm older and I have some physical problems, my sons repair things under my supervision of course!

I live in an apartment complex, so it's pretty easy to just call for the maintenance man to come by...makes my life easier!

If I can fix it myself then I do...I know general car maintenance, house maintenance and repairs. If I can't fix it I call my dad or brother and ask what to do (since they're out of state)....if I still can't fix it then I take it to someone who can

I do the best that I can do. I'm stubborn, so I do as many things that I can. I'll call some else for the things that I just can't manage on my own. Trust me, I hate having to ask anyone for anything, but sometimes it has to be done.

Mostly I try it myself first. But if I think it's fairly complicated and I know someone who has experience with it, I'll probably call him for support and keep him on call if I need him to come take over for me.

I do everything - electricals, plumbing, joinery, decorating, tiling, carpet laying, gardening. I wouldn't trust a man to do it when I can do better.
