It was a little like a mini sting ray, with a circular sucking bit, and a little tail at the back. The disc shaped bit was the bit that sucked. The aquatics person told me it was a suckerfish, and he said a name beginning with B, then suckerfish. Please tell me what it is!

It could have been a member of the Loricariidae family which are often called pleco. (The early pleco were thought to be Hypostomus plecostomus.) From your description it could have been a number of different fish.

My guess is it's not a pleco/Loricariidae at all. Instead it's one the Asian hill-stream loaches that are sometimes call plecos.

It is a hillstream loach, here is a site with a good picture and information on care and feeding.

The do like a strong current in the tank as they come from mountain streams with fast running water. The sucker mouth and the overall shape of the body allow them to stick to rocks as the current flows over them.

If the body is skinny (not too much), then it is a plecostomus. If the body is a little bit fatter, it might be an overfed pleco.

Sounds like a Hillstream Loach.

It sounds like a pleco to me. It may have been a rarer type, though. Suckerfish, algea eater, and "ugly fish" are all less formal names for them.

I also thought of hillstream loach, but if it's not that, try a banjo catfish (Bunocephalus coracoideus): http://members.tripod.com/~Boeing_Dude/banjo.html - these don't quite have as much of a suckermouth as the hillstream and they have the typical catfish barbels that the loach lacks.
