What's it really about? It's deep and i have many opinions about it. What do you think it's all about? Is the story somewhat possible??

I think it's more or less about everything. It's about multiple realities, multiple universes, love, death, questions, answers, synchronicities, time, space, you, me, them, us, the world, the other worlds, everything.
And for a movie that deals with all that and to be THAT good, wow, respect.

Donnie Darko is, perhaps, one of the better known examples of a story told with an unreliable narrator.

We are all prone to a certain amount of distortion when we tell tales, but the main character in this story is also a socially-outcast schizophrenic. Things that happen in the movie are even at times overtly labelled as hallucinations. This leaves the viewer with a very interesting question: What REALLY happened?

On the surface level you can just accept everything. A random teenager can percieve discontinuities in the space-time continuum and a dead person from the future is helping him prevent the universe from coming to an end. That doesn't SOUND too plausible, but there are certainly stranger movies out there.

Or you can start to doubt things. Maybe there IS no Frank as a person... maybe Frank is just a manifestation of Donnie's ability to see events in different time-lines. Maybe some of the other events aren't real, such as the jet engines falling or the wormholes. If you take a near-total-skeptic point of view, you could say that the whole film was just an illustration of the rationalizations that a madman makes when he commits acts of vandalism, arson, and eventually murder.

Since the movie was framed in that way, there can't be just one interpretion... even the writers, directors, and so on may well be thinking of the story as one with many plausible explanations. And like some artists, it may be their own idea of what REALLY happened is less important that what viewers think.

In other words, YOU. So enjoy!

Donnie Darko is generally if I remember correctly about alternate timelines, corruptions in time and paradoxes. The bunny Frank is correct about the world ending, the jet engine has appeared and has absolutely no reason to be there (a corruption in time and space), causing the universe to become unstable (it will collapse after three weeks according to the Philosophy of Time Travel book shown in the movie.)

This has repeated itself over and over, with the world ending as Donnie fails to send the jet engine back in time. The bunny frank (despite being dead as Donnie shot him) somehow survives this event in some form and comes back and chooses Donnie to attempt to stop this event from happening. As the jet engine would have killed Donnie, he is an effective remedy for the problem.

Anyway, this time Donnie manages to save the future. The only thing we can possibly say was different is that Donnie realised what he must do. He (or maybe it happens naturally) creates a wormhole for the jet engine to fall through, however he manages to guide it back to 28 days ago.

This time though, the jet engine isn't a corruption in the universe as it has a point of origin (even though its in a now defunct timeline) and so Frank does not appear to warn Donnie, so the jet engine lands on him and crushes him. This is supposed to be a sacrifice to save the future of everything so it can be paralled to the sacrific Jesus made for humanity (I'm not preaching here so sorry if it come across as that.)

However in terms of possibility, I'll say its impossible.

The movie DONNIE DARKO was about a rookie director using has-been actors for a psuedo-profound movie which ripps-off HARVEY.

It'll have whatever meaning people try to inject into it.

It means nothing. It means everything.
