Check to see if your teacher offers a leaps and turns class. Also find out if you can take a technique class or ballet class with students that compete. Usually most dance teachers do not take much time with students who are not in competition.

ive been taking dance classes since i was 5 and ill tell you that the two classes that help you out the most are jazz and ballet. Jazz gives you the basic steps and you will be able to do other classes like tap and hip hop with those steps, Ballet is the class that you need in every class because it teaches you how to use your arms and point feet with out messing up the rest of the body. SO BOTH CLASSES ARE REALLY GOOD!!

if you intend on becoming very serious with dance, like competition, then i would suggest ballet. If you are just taking the classes to keep in good shape, and to have fun, while learning a lot, deffinately jazz. Although my personal favortie was hip hop, since that one, for me, was the most fun.

i'd say jazz.....i love jazz it combines ballet, hip hop, modern jazz and modern all into one genre!! its awesome!!! you learn so much its a really good basis...although if you want a technique dance i would say go with ballet as it is very structured and gives you the basis of dancing if you have never danced before!!! It conects with all types!!! And once you have began with one type you can move onto any other: irish, scottish, modern, hip hop, tap, jazz, modern jazz, ballet, ballroom, flamenco etc there are lots and lots of different types there will be one you love!!!
good luck :o)

Jazz. I never liked it, I enjoy ballet. But I believe jazz gives you a taste of everything from ballet to hip hop.

Jazz will give you what you're looking for, but ballet has the best if you really want to get your base technique down!

Probably jazz... i combines lots of dancing. Also ballet helps you get more flexible if you become serious about it. Tap doesn't really involve any other dances... but it is fun!!!! :]
