A ship wreck leaves 5 survivors:
A nun, a gay man, a vicar, a young woman and an elderly man.

You're helicopter will carry 2 people.
Which 2 will you save, and why?

This was an RE question we did in class today. Just wondered you're thoughts on it.

For awkward people: The mainland is 8000 miles away and they will be dead by the time you return.
Just answer the question, don't make difficulties.

Nun, vicar will be saved by God.
Elderly man has enjoyed his life almost full.
Gayman and young woman will be saved,so that we can give an opportunity to the man in ''gay man"
But why your teacher is preventing saving of all when helicopter can make many trips?

well this is what i would do...

the Nun and Gay man stay... if they sevive then that gay man will be thanking god and the nun will make him ungay....
the old man will stay too. the nun will give him a proper death at sea... the Vicar and young woman leave to procrate and start a new in the world.

Now heres a question.

you, your best friend, the love of your life, and an elderly lady are right in the way of a great tornado with a car that fits 2. what would you do? think bout it...

The young woman and the elderly man. The nun will go to heaven and pray for the other two who boarded together anyway. The young woman and the elderly man have a lot of family at home and will be needed at home to care for others. (by the way, I am the young woman in this scenario so of course I would save myself.)

sounds cruel buti'll say it,
the old mans had a life, and the nun will be safe with god

i would save the young woman, and the vicar because they are in some place the key of the comunity.
i cant think of a reason against or for the gay man really but that's not because i'm a homophobic, ive just drawn a blank in my head.
moral debates ware me out, time for a nap i think

First, I will choose: the two women. Always the priority during emergencies, together with children. Then I will go back to the wreck site and save the elderly man next and whoever appears weaker/sicker or needs my attention more - the vicar or the gay guy.

I would use logic that excludes any judgment on morality and only focuses on the task at hand - to preserve life. This is the best approach, since the families of the non-survivors would probably sue.

If the prospect of another rescue team coming was good, I would save the two least likely to survive - probably the oldest. The others would have a better chance of waiting for the next crew.

If there was no prospect of another rescue team, I'd save the two youngest. Assuming they have the most "life" left to live, I would have made the best logical approach for preserving life.

I would take the young woman and the elderly man. The young woman may have children or may want to have children. The elderly man has lived a long life and does not deserve to have his life ended on an island without friends and family.

The nun and the gay. For sentimental reasons.
But then it would depend on which one i took an instant liking to too. Since my chopper will only carry two i can only really choose one without leaving my chopper in a second persons hand.
I might just leave the lot and get on maritime channels to get help so they can all be saved at once.
And should they get sttruck by a tsunami inbetween. Well ... at least i tried ...

Young woman as she can give birth easily and the old man as he'll be able to get it up at least a few times to repopulate the earth but wont be in a position to bother her more than necassary.

He'll also have experience and widom whilst she'll have youth and vigour.

Unless you had a written contract from the gay guy he would have sex with the girl and start re-population.

Leave the religeous people, they wont mind dying anyway as they are going to 'a better place'

the young woman and the gay man...
the old man doesn have much of a life left and both the nun and vicar, being persons of God will definitely offer their life for that of others...
so leaves these 2 with a longer life ahead of em, lets hope they make it worth while or i'll drop em back there ;)
