A rock dropped down to the ground at the south pole would be heading in exactly the opposite direction as one dropped at the north pole. Gives new meaning to "what goes up must come down", huh? lol There is no real up or down only "towards the center of gravitational fields" and "away from the center of gravitational fields". Remember that the next time somebody calls Australia the "Land Down Under". Also think about the fact that the north pole of a compass points to the north pole of the Earth even though everyone knows "like poles" repel...

There is no up and down in space, Antarctica is not down. And gravity pulls towards the center of the earth.

It's not really at the bottom! The earth is a sphere racing through space and at the same time rotating on it's axis. There is no down or up.

The fact is that most people's brains have not the ability to think three-dimensionally
The Earth is a ball, mate. there is no up or down to a ball, is there. We only say "down there" because our civilisation sprung up in the North. There would be nothing to stop anyone printing a map of the world upside down. The way it is printed is simply convention.

Marie. That is a damned good question. I wondered this myself back in my days with Mulder at the FBI. Mulder discovered that the answer is simple:
The Antarctic is connected to the Arctic by a 2000 mile long bolt. It was placed there by grey aliens back in 1947.
I hope this helps.

In space, there is no "up" and there is no "down".
It's just 3D space. That's it.
Think of it this way: everything is attracted to the CENTRE of the earth, or the centre of the mass. Same goes with Antarctica.
It's like a magnet: no matter if it's "up" or "down": it'll keep attracting stuff.

Gravity doesn't pull anything down, it pulls everything to its center. So no matter what part of earth you are on, we're all being pulled to the same place.
