No, if you closely examine most of that mythology there are many clear holes. Plus, if you do believe that when Rome switched over to the Catholic church the fates said to the gods that their time was up. They left Mt. Olympus and went into hiding or became farmers.

of course they do. in fact they probably have more right than all modern religions. greek and roman gods share the same qualities as our old pagan gods, they just have different names.
also these gods and godesses promote looking after the planet which is something that is very important in this day and age.
good question by the way, i'm just off to dance round an oak tree with a sprig of holly tied to my head!

As Archetypes the greek deities offer much variety and colour not available from any of the monotheistic religions. They are still woshipped today, just look in most pubs on Saturday night to see young worshippers of Dionysus, and about chucking out time of Ares. Seriously though, I think they can be useful in the modern day as they were in the past. After all We pride ourselves on our rationality then go to worship a dead criminal who supposedly rose from the dead. Where's the rationality there?

I think people need them now more than ever. This society is deteriorating. We are being told what to think, dress, eat, smoke, drink, dance to, listen to...etc, all the time! We need to step back and look at the world for what it is: chaotic.
Now I believe in the Gods and Goddesses because they give me a sense of peace. I feel at home in knowing they are there. They may not be fully there but I feel like they are. I do worship them. I think I will always worship them somehow.

Many of us were brought up on the old Greek myths, which were marvellous stories. The Greek gods and goddesses were so glamorous, particularly Apollo, Athena and Aphrodite, and were less cruel and coarse than the Roman gods. I think that is why their appeal lives on. I have always admired the idea of Apollo and I would much prefer it if people started to love the ancient Greeks rather than the modern 'celebs' Having said that I am not a pagan.

You have a presentation for the final tomorrow and you're just now preparing for it? *sigh* What do you need examples on? Just the names? If that's the case then here: Greek / Roman Aphrodite / Venus Artemis / Diana Zeus / Jupiter Ares / Mars Apollo / ? Hera / Juno Athena / Minerva Hermes / Mercury Demeter / Ceres Poseidon / Neptune

Funny, people nowadays think that these Greek and Roman gods and goddesses don't exist, that they are imaginary. In the Western hemisphere, they mostly worship just one imaginary god now. It's more economical, I guess. Plus, there is a certain mental challenge to remember a whole bunch of gods, it's easier this way. My two cents.

I love the greek gods/goddesses, they were so open minded and liberal. Definately think they still have a place in todays world. I'd probably worship Bacchus, the god of wine, food and hedonism!!

There is room for all types of deitic worship.
Its whether or not there is room for respect between faiths.
It is evident from some comments posted here and in R&S that some people have no respect for any belief other than their own.
There are some people who are just NEVER wrong and ALWAYS right.
Sad but True.
Nicely put Aqua !!

Yes. As a matter of fact, the Neopagan movement is a spiritual and religious movement dedicated to reviving the worship of ancient gods and goddesses. There are many Neopagan religions, including Hellenic Reconstructionism, Druidism, and Wicca. Many people find these gods and goddesses to be more meaningful, more accessible, and more real than the Monotheistic God of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. They certainly do have their place.
