Well, as a SAHM who drives her kids to school every day and picks them up, what does "welfare" have to do with busing? There are several reasons why my kids don't ride.
1. Buses aren't safe for kids in elementary school. No seat belts and minimal driver supervision.
2. Because of federal government interference, my children don't get the choice of going to a neighborhood school so the bus stops at my house (that's right, I own a house and am not on welfare and I pay enough property taxes for two houses) at 6:00 a.m. when school starts at 8:30 a.m. Two and half hours on a bus in the a.m. as well as in the afternoon. Don't think so.
You should be grateful that parents are taking their children to school. Some parents who don't deserve to be parents don't care. I care about my kids' future. After all, my children will have to be working overtime to pay for your social security.

OK i really don't understand how parents taking their children to school makes them lazy. they get up early in the morning, make sure their child is fed and dressed, and then takes time out to drive them to school. I think the bus is lazier (i don't think any parent who makes sure their kid GOES to school is lazy) but there are several reasons parents do this, perhaps they wont be home when the child gets out of school because of work and would like a few extra minutes with their children. I take it you are not a parent yourself otherwise you wouldn't be judging others' parenting choices. and if it bothers you THAT much, find a new route to go in the mornings, or leave a few minutes earlier before they start taking their children to school. (and with gas prices these days i doubt they are on welfare if they drive their children to school every single day, because if they were on welfare any money they got from them would go to their bills and rent/mortgage because they are responsible parents and would not waste it on the extra costs of gas just to drive them to school everyday they would use the public transportation or walk them everyday instead)

I live in in a major city, and the school district that I'm in, is huge, but doesn't offer bus service to those who live within so many miles of the school. They either walk or the parents have to take their kids to school. As for the kidnapping fear, it does happen. Also, maybe you don't have to be afraid of being taken, but there are predators out there. When I was walking home one day, this guy started following me and I realized he was masturbating in his car. Gross! (That was seventeen years ago. I imagine it's worse now!)
P.S. What about the child's responsibilty for getting up on time? That's why we have alarm clocks!

most school districts in the US only offer busing if you live a certain distance away (in ours I think it's 3 miles). We live a mile and a half away from our elementary school so we don't qualify for busing and I'm not about to let my kindergartner cross a 4 lane highway by herself. Occasionally we walk, but usually we drive. Laziness has nothing to do with it. I have 3 children, the oldest is 5. Why don't you try getting 3 kids plus yourself up, fed breakfast, dressed, ready for the day and out the door by 8:10.
What does welfare have to do with anything? Do you assume all stay at home moms are on welfare? You know what they say happens when you assume.......

Well, if you've ever been in a house with a harried mother getting ready for work, a cat throwing up in the kitchen, a girl trying to fix a ponytail that looks "cool", and a boy trying to do his homework at the last second, you would understand why not all kids ride the bus. The bus doesn't wait forever, and kids miss the bus all the time. The parent can either allow their kid to be truant or go drive the kid to school.

Well, I suppose some parents might be. A lot of schools only offer bus service within a certain radius, and the rest have to get a ride from their parents. Some parents may prefer to drive them because the bus stop is out of sight and they dont want their kids kidnapped or maybe its in an unsafe neighborhood.
Anyway, there's tons of different reasons. So I guess you'll just have to deal with it or take public trasportation yourself.

I have been sending our children to school on the bus for the last 21 years. Personally, I think it is easier to get them up and out the door to the bus then trying to get them and me ready to leave in the morning on time and fighting the before school traffic. I work at home, though, so I enjoy getting them out the door early. Each family has different needs. Some parents drop their children off at school on their way to work. Some children need to be at school earlier than the bus can get them there for various before school activities, to complete make-up work, or to get extra help from the teacher. If your frustration comes from the amount of traffic on a school morning, perhaps you can alter your own route to avoid school areas or leave earlier yourself. I doubt that being lazy has anything to do with the majority of parents taking their children to school. Of the few lazy parents I know, their children are amazingly self-reliant and get themselves up and out to the bus on time every school morning. We are fortunate to have a good bus route with a great bus driver, but not everyone has that benefit. It is presumptuous to make generalizations about parents who take their children to school. At least in our area, typically, I have found that the more affluent a family is that the more apt they are to drive their children to school instead of sending them on the school bus. In any situation that makes me frustrated, I like to figure out what I can control since I can't control the actions of anyone else.

depending on the district or the state, there may not be school bussing offered.
however, many parents would RATHER take their kid to school than have them ride the bus for many reasons. they may:
think it is safer
want extra time with their kid
want to do something special for their kid that a lot of other kids don't get
want to limit the unsupervised time other kids have with their child (bus drivers are not supervisors, they're supposed to BE DRIVING)
you're just being a selfish jerk.

Mother's have as much rights to be on the road as anyone else. Why do you think they are on welfare and lazy ? You are very negative and bias, probably you are a bad driver and a woman hater. You are asked for an opinion and this is mine.
