BMW is working very hard to get the hydrogen fuel cell idea to work. It seems they think they might have something. The problem with the Hydrogen idea now is finding a way to keep your hydrogen in the vehicle if you were to park it for a week or longer. Currently we can't really do that and nobody is going to buy a vehicle that you can park at an airport and when you get beck it is completely dead in the water.

Ethanol is looking to be the better substitute so far. In fact there has been a lof of infrastructure development in many states over the past few years. My money is going with the flex fuels ethanol and bi-diesel in the near future. But I'm sure it won't end there.

compressed air seems cool, but have you seen a tank of compressed air when it is punctured...pretty violent
biodiesel is probobly going to be more feasible...same combustion concept, just different liquid
of course...electric is also nice..just takes too long to recharge...would never make it in a place where time is against you
i think hybrid technology will prevail...but more of biodiesel/electric rather than gas/electric...but who knows
