they both have their own drops. they are berry flavoured. they do not go into the water. all i do is give them a drop with their normal food. and they eat it. they have no problems taking their drops.

I would give the hamster 2 drops daily. As for the Guinea Pig I would buy vitamin drops specifically for Guinea Pigs as they (the vitamins) will have extra vitamin C added which is crucial for them. Hope this helps!

Whether they're put in the water or not, vitamin supplements are bad for guinea pigs. The only vitamins guinea pigs need is vitamin c, and as long as you're giving her the right diet, she'll get enough of that. Vitamin supplements bought at the store have extra vitamins, and they can actually be toxic to guineas.
For the pregnant guinea pig, you can supplement extra vitamin C, but the best way to do that is just to find chewable vitamin c tablets at a health foods store, and give her those. I buy vitamin c tablets from oxbow, which are made especially for guinea pigs, and they love them.
Sorry I can't help with the hampster!
Check out www.guinealynx.info for good information about guinea pig health, and diet. You can see there that as long as she's getting the fresh veggies and timothy hay that she needs, she doesn't need extra vitamins. They also have good info on how to take care of a pregnant guinea pig, and what to do to prepare for the babies.
Good luck! I bought vitamin drops when I first got my girls too, but I learned quickly that they were just a waste of money.

I would say get a guinea pig. Hamsters tend to smell like pee a lot, and they bite, but guinea pigs hardly ever bite (unless threatened, as any other animal would) and guinea pigs love human contact so they're most of the time up for being held! They also make cute squeking noises! Although since you have a cat, if you get a cage with bars be carefull to watch the cat around it because he/she may stick her paws in and try to get your guinea pig! I can't compare them with a degu because i dont know what they are, sorry. otherwise i would suggest a guinea pig :] And good luck on deciding!

First of all, get rid of those drops. They are not only expensive, but absolutely worthless. Once the drops hit the water, the Vit. C destabilizes and does nothing for the cavy except make her drinking water taste awful. They *really* don't like the drops & will actually drink less water than they really need because it tastes bad. These drops are nothing more than a way for pet stores to make money.
A pregnant piggie needs anywhere from 30 to 50 mg. of ascorbic acid (Vit. C) daily, depending upon the pig's veggie intake, which should already include leafy greens, bell pepper, etc. that contain Vit. C naturally.
You can buy human grade chewable Vit.C tablets of 100 mg & cut them into quarters to form pieces of 25 mg apiece. Your piggie should readily like them--they're sweet!
See http://www.guinealynx.info/scurvy.html for more info.
Your piggie should be eating a high quality guinea pig (not rabbit!) pellets with stabilized Vit. C. You can order excellent pellets online from www.oxbowhay.com or www.kmshayloft.com

Do not feed guinea pigs treats such as yogurt drops because they are high in sugar and are not benefitial toward their health. Especially if she's pregnant! Look at the link i'll put below that talks about yougurt drops and other foods on a great guinea pig forum.

Ms. Justified (above) gave you excellent advice. A good guinea pig pellet food, and a good serving of vegetables and fruits every day, are the best investment of your money -- not Vit. C drops.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble substance. The drops are a waste of your money.
