Gas would have been 5+ bucks a gallon the next day here in the states... isn't it time we found a better alternative to foreign oil?

In 1998 (my senior year.. I remember the time well) I read an article in popular science about ethanol production that said they didn't think it was practical because the price would average out to about the same as paying 2.05 a gallon for gas and they didn't think anyone would be willing to pay that much... hmmm

ethanol isn't viable because they don't want it to be.. simple truth.

Yes we need to find alternatives and also start drilling for oil of our own. We have many sites to drill oil on and yet everytime it is put on a proposal there are always the do gooders saying no. We can't keep depending on Eastern oil for our main source of oil. Just gives them that much more control over us. It is time we put up or shut up.

Of course it's time we found a better alternative. What's your plan?

Ethanol: can't possibly produce enough, has a high production cost, drives up the price of food.

Electric: Not enough horsepower, battery technology not quite ready yet, would need lots more generation potential and a bigger 'grid' to deliver it.

Fuel Cells: Ten to fifteen years before they're ready for the Big Time.

What else have you got, buddy? Other than mandating 30-MPG on all cars and trucks?
