All Democractic party supporters are obviously hoping for their candidate to win the White House in '08. That somehow having the party in control of all 3 houses will somehow make this nation great once more. But aren't they forgetting the founding principle of a 2 party system; the check & balances. We saw what 6 years of Republican majority has done, the Democrats will go down the same path of reckless spending & scandal. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, don't kidd yourself otherwise.
Personally I would like to see a moderate Republican president in '08, who would work with Congress to better this nation.
Either party can do serious damage when not in check.

Well--granted everybody wants "their guy" to win. But in general I agree with you (and I'm on the liberal end, mostly voting Democrat).

But the current situation is extraordinary--in the degree of corruption and disregard for the constitution it displayed by the right-wing faction that controls the GOP has no precedant in US history (BTW--I am a professional historian).

I fully intend to vote for the person, not the party, in local and state races. Just as I've always done. But until this gang is out of power--completely--I will not vote for ANY Republican at the national level. If our country is to survive, the Bush/Cheney/neo-con faction has to be forced out. We'll jus t have to put up with the inevitable abuses we'll see from an all-Dem government for awhile. Our country has had to put up with that from one party or the other several times. It's a nusience, granted.

This is different--we are facing a real threat to this country's future as a free people. That takes precedence.

I agree with your statement. Both parties, Democrat and Republican, are corrupt and filled with selfish politicians who are more worried about their career than worrying about what is best for the American people. It is a back and forth battle that the American people always lose. There is a reson there are no other strong parties. These two won't allow it so they can keep their power! People get sick of Republicans so they vote in the Democrats who promise change and a better future. The only problem is once we elect them into office, they start raising taxes and increasing our government while they come up with excuses on why they can't fulfill the promises they made that got them there. Then we get sick of Democrats and vote in Republicans. We are seeing this right now with the Democrats we elected in the house and senate. They told us they would get us out of Iraq which is why people voted for them. I guarantee you we will still be in Iraq by the time we elect the next president. And I also guarantee if we elect a Democratic President, we will still be in Iraq in 2012. We will here more of the same. Back and forth, back and forth, same results. Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. Sound familiar? We need to stop electing these internationalists that have their own agenda and start electing true American Patriots! That will change business in Washington. If we keep electing people like the Bush's, Clinton's, Obama, McCain, Guiliani, and company, we will keep getting the same failed policies and agendas. Stand up, let your voice be heard! Vote Ron Paul for President in 2008!

I don't think an all Democrat government would be better, nor an all Republican government. You made a great point about checks and balances and having both parties allows us to get the moderate view, the middle ground, in most cases. However realize that not all people vote on party lines, which can be seen in laws, bills, and even court cases.

You are so right and absolute power will led a good party down the wrong path. We must all remember that their are three party's in our political system. What would the other two party's think if one party did everything their way and forgot all of the others which make up over 50% of our nation.

I know it was sort of an anomality, but Bill Clinton did re-right our economy much in debt to Japan, balance the federal budget for the first time in 80 years and bring us 8 years of peace & prosperity. Although he sympathized with the underdog, he was really a moderate & sensible president.

In fact, Bush is a worst spendthrift than any Democrat in my lifetime of 72 years. I really don't know how conservative Republicans can stand him.

I am a Democrat but I heartily agree with you (but make that a moderate Democrat for president). We do need two parties to make this government function at its best. But the real problem is partisanship. If congress could learn how to compromise than it would be effective. Right now it is like to punch drunk fighter waiting to take another swing at each other.

The fundamental principle of a democratic republic is that each voter will vote for the candidate(s) of his choice. If you prefer an all-Republican slate, you will vote for one. If the majority of us prefer an all-Democratic slate, having learned the lessons of four years of all Republicans, we will vote for that. Your question is naive. You are basically saying, "how can anyone possibly disagree with me?" (And in fact, that is a rather typical Republican attitude.) Well, I'll tell you, sonny boy. It's easy.

if you look at the 93' to '95 congress, it was completely democratically controlled. during that time, the nat'l debt did take a sharp increase also like it did under the republican controlled congress from '01 to '07.

Democrats don't have the Supreme Court.. and won't for a while from the look of things.. so there will be a checks and balances.

True. The hope is that the pendullum will swing widely the other way, so that we end up in the middle somewhere.
I'd also like to see a moderate win. Its time for the majority of Americans to put the conservatives and liberals in their place: the sidelines.
