Learning by experience - carrying out activities that allow discovery instead of researching or being told what needs to be learned. Example: building a fire - being given two straight sticks, a leather thong and two boards and a knife.

This type of mode of learning is different that auditory or visual learning modes in that the learners do an activity or have an experience that teaches them the objectives. For example, you may have a group of students try to problem solve crime waves in an activity, then afterwards discuss the process and get into what crime is how to prevent it. It is an excellent technique but you do have to make sure that the activity or experience actually leads them to where you want them to get and not some place else.

In my fateher days, I am 66 years old now it was called an Apprentice, where you learned no the job and thereby got your experience. It actually means the same as experiential learning process.
