Do we absorb them so much that we become one?

I am going to have to disagree with most people here. When we love someone we do not become them, we may how ever become a part of them in the sense that I think you are asking. By becoming the person you would not be loving them you would be destroying the person in your own consciousness.

Nah, I think you have that confused. ^_^ Sorry.

It's like what Plato said back in the day: "What you think of, you will become."

Catch is, loving someone is different from thinking about them. Not by a whole lot, mind you, but it is. Loving someone means you generally hold them in a kind, warm regard, at the *very least*. It is more of a feeling and an experience than a thought process.

So yes....I'd say it is possible--maybe even healthier for both of you--to have love for someone in your heart, *without* thinking about them so obsessively that you become them.

The key is to think *of* them, with the intent of being a part of that *kind, warm regard*. Not about them, nitpicking and dwelling on all manner of details. With genuine love, you and yours should be able and willing to "come as you are", so to speak, and feel no real need to change into anything, never mind each other. Your beloved *loves* who you are *now*, and you love your beloved *as they are right now*, no changes or assembly required.

But then again, what do I know....? Maybe my standards are too high. -_-

Take care and stay safe.

Yes. A big part of who you are is life experiences, and the longer you spend those experiences with another person, the more alike you become. In a lot of cases you even start to look alike.

I beleive most change to be loved by that who they seek out. We slowly change with love and become part of the person we are with over time.

Absorbing people is not love. Helping them grow and become themselves is love.
We do sometimes become the people we hate, however.
