Just wondering what is the routine at the County Health Department for a baby's immunizations? What all are they gonna do there if we go just for the baby's second immunization shot?

Usually nurses are responsible for administering vaccines.

Routines vary from place to place so without knowing where you are talking about, the second part of the question is impossible.

Our county health provided well baby check ups, answered general questions and Nurses did the immunizations. If there were any issues that needed further attention then a referral was made to the doctor. It probably depends where you live.

Why don't you call ahead and ask your questions so that you feel more comfortable once you arrive.

In Oklahoma one can go to the country Health Department for Vaccinations.

You register with the desk. Then you are called into an exam room and a nurse gives the shot.

Then you leave.

There is either a doctor or a nurse practitioner there to give the baby a checkup, but the vaccines are almost always given by a nurse. That is the case at a Heath Unit or a regular doctor's office.

If you've never been there before they will most likely do an exam as well, but not likely to be anything big. This is usually a precaution as some vaccines shouldn't be given if your baby is sick. More often than not, in any office, a nurse gives the vaccination.

They will just check the shot record, give you info on the shots and then give the baby whatever shots they need. It's a nurse here that gives the shots. Sometimes they will give meds to keep the reaction to shots from causing a fever. Hope this helps!

Sometimes a doctor. Usually a nurse. It's good to get their shots at the health dept. because they have a fresh supply daily. My pediatrician actually told me to go there instead. He said the vaccines may set in the med cabinet longer in his office than at the health dept. And may not be as potent. Go figure.

At my county's health department the nurses are usually the ones who give the vaccinations. However, you experience will depend on your local health department's staffing and operating procedures.
