The operating system, applications, and data are stored on your hard disk, not the motherboard. If the motherboard died but the hard disk is still intact, simply mount it as a slave drive in a working system and access your data. This will involve disconnecting it from your current PC and attaching it as a second drive to a working system. You will likely need to set the jumper (a pin on the back of the hard disk near the ribbon connection) to "slave".

Yes.
The motherboard does not store any of the data.
The hard drive stores the data.
Just connect the hard drive in an external enclosure or bring it to a repair shop to have it copied.

Yes. Just remove the hard drive from the computer and connect it as a secondary drive on another computer. Copy and paste the files over.

well... you mother board is the "component" Hardware that let you computer work.. the memory go it, and with the power supply combine send the power to the CD-rom, DVD-rom, Hard drive, floppy disk... or other hardware in your pc. and answer you Q. no... you need to retrive the information from the Hard Drive.... is the hardware to save you information, pic, etc...
I think you can do that without... open the case to a pc... only you need to buy an adapter for that.... you can find that in any computer store... I think is cable adapter... for HD... I find mine on Geek.com....

When you replace the main board it will not erase your drive. Unless they reload your operating sysytem. Ask them about data recovery
