Your doctor will tell you which kind to take, but I personally prefer the type of pill that has the least amountof hormones. The last pill I took was Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo which was great but then I switched over to the NuvaRing because that has even less hormones in it, plus it's easier to use and you only have to remember to change it once a month. What works for me might not work for you though so be sure to discuss it with your ob/gyn.

Don't be too much in a hurry for the pill - especially if you're young. There are other safe methods which won't affect your hormone balance. The pill can have many side effects and you really need to weigh that carefully before embarking on especially a long term course of taking any.
Best thing, talk to your doctor or nurse about it in detail and then check on the brands they might recommend. Do, however, seriously consider other methods. Taking hormones does change many things in your body and not always for the better, especially not long-term.

There are so many kinds of birth controls, esp. different kinds of pills. One of the best ones I have taken was Yasmin. It was a low dose birth control pill that has something in it to keep you from retaining water, yes you pee kinda often, but it keeps you from gaining an extra 15 pounds of water-weight. My period was only a day and 1/2 - very light. Also it did not make me moody at all.

Start there, your doctor will give you some samples probably and after a month or two bring you back in and ask how they are making or if they are making your body react in any way, if you like them, then you will get a prescription and be done with it for a year.
