In a Chevy what?

It will likely last for at least 20 miles or so but I have never done this mainly because I tell all of my customers to fill at a 1/4 tank and no less.

It is cheaper to fill up than it will be for the fuel pump that you will be replacing trying to see how far you will get when the fuel light comes on.

It varies by model. On mine, the low fuel light comes on when there's less than 3 gallons in the tank. I just assume on most cars if the light comes on, I need to get fuel within the next 20-30 miles. That may be a bit conservative, but I've never had to walk to a gas station...

Probably between 1 and 3 gallons but wait! It's really not a good practice to run you vehicle with less than,.... oh a quarter of a tank. allow me to explain.

Most cars have fuel pumps that are inside the gas tank. they are cooled by the gas in the tank, when there is no gas in the tank they get hot, then you add really cold gas to the gas tank the fuel pump quits working. not every time, but eventually it happens. And it's a real pain in the butt to fix it since you probably just put 10-20 gallons of gas in that tank.

You may last another 40 miles, however you risk damaging the fuel pump within the tank. The pump depends on the fuel to keep it cool. Overheating can cause failure leading to a hefty repair $800 - 1000.

Your manual will have your tank capacity. Try filling up right after you see the light, and you should be able to figure out how much gas you have left.
