Increased foreign investment, bringing with it increased foreign involvement with governement, day-to-day life, and so forth and greater exposure to other cultures. Since every developing country faces it's own challenges, there can be a wide variety of indirect effects. Political factions or religious ideaologies can use fear of change to drive revolutions; resentment of foreigners can build; standards of living can improve (or improve for some and degrade for others); damage can be done to the local environment; corruption can run rampant; etc, etc...
