My Aunt lives in Cleveland near Rocky River Park. I would like to get her a hummingbird feeder for her backyard, but am unsure whether hummingbirds are in the area. Anyone know?? Thanks much.

The range for the Ruby Throated Hummingbord includes all of Ohio. In addition to the feeder your aunt will have greater success in attracting Humming Birds to her lot if she also plants flowers that are attractive to the birds. We have found in the Adirndack Mountains of NY that hanging our feeders near window boxes planted with red or orange impatiens helps.

Hi,

The only species of hummingbird that breeds in eastern North America is the Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris). They should begin arriving in Ohio any time.

There are basically two types of feeders to choose from,
dish feeder and bottle feeder.

You may have trouble attracting hummers even using the best hummingbird feeder. If so, try placing your feeders near flowers where hummers have been seen feeding. Since hummingbirds are attracted to the color red, you can also try tying strips of red cloth above your feeder. The blowing red strips may catch their attention.

Good Luck,
John

Yes, Ohio is in the range of the hummingbird. I live in New Jersey and have had success with hummingbird feeders.

Ohio does have hummingbirds. They may not be numerous in some areas, but overall a hummingbird feeder could attract hummingbirds.
