I'd go a little higher. My old Ford Escort was 15 years old before it rusted away.

There are many variables that will affect the ultimate working life of the car. Ensure proper maintenance and don't thrash it. The climate the car is used in will have an effect too, it stands to reason the car will be more prone to rust in a wet/damp climate than a hot/dry one.

There used to be a school of thought that said cars were only good for 100,000 miles but modern cars are more than capable of exceeding that.

If it's properly looked after, with the mileage you state, then there is no reason really why it wont last your lifetime.

Look at the number of classic cars on the road from the 50s and 60s, and that's 'only' 50-60 years ago.

Cars are still going, that have been properly cared for from the 20s.

I'd keep it away from the 110 mph though !!!

Modern engines are capable of high mileage and car bodies do not suffer from rust as of old.So there is no reason why with careful ownership the car shouldnt last a long time--say 10 years without much expense

It depends how gently you drive it of course.

If you're not too harsh with it, I'd say it'd be eight to ten years until some more expensive repairs are likely to be necessary and you'll wonder whether it's worth it.

But if you're lucky, it's properly serviced and treated gently, you could probably expect a modern car to last fifteen years.

If not abused and serviced every 5000mls with lots of Tlc should last longer than you. It's a machine that responds to being looked after, 50 years should be nothing, 75 possible.

The answer to your question depends on how you treat the car, and how well it is maintained. If you take care of the car it should last at least ten years.

About 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Rust will kill it before miles. If you can keep the rust down and maintain everything properly, it could still be running in 20 years.

It depends how much you love and cherish it, vintage cars are still around and going strong, just look at the Brighton to London race.
