i have only just started taking the contraceptive pill and about 7 days later i had unprotected sex but he didn't ejaculate inside me. i am really paranoid about everything and am really worried im pregnant. we have had unprotected sex a few times since then but ive taken the pill every day as instructed. my breasts are really tender which can be a side effect of pregnancy but also from the pills i am taking so im quite confused!! also another big problem is that ever since i started taking the pills i never stopped bleeding. it has only been very light but does this affect the effectiveness of the pill? please help me!!
also when you are meant to have a period on the 7 pill free days, is this just withdrawal bleeding or is this a real period and can therefore show that i am not pregnant?

You are most likely not pregnant. You are only fertile for a few days, and it doesn't sound like your unprotected sex happened during that time. The best time to start the pill is after your regular period. You may be blanketing what would normally be your regular menses time. Which would explain the bleeding right now.

The previous poster is right--you need to take most pills for a full month before it's really effective. As to your question about bleeding--most women have lighter and shorter periods on the pill than when they are off it.

If you are into your 2nd pack of pills, I'd go ahead and take a pregnancy test just to be sure--it will put your mind at ease if nothing else. If you're not, start using condoms until you're into the 2nd pack and then take a test.

I don't understand why you'd do something responsible, like go get birth control pills, and then not follow the instructions that come with them (and that any pharmacist would be happy to go over with you).

If the two most fertile people in the world had unprotected sex in a given month, they'd have about a 25% chance of getting pregnant--so there's a high likelihood you're not pregnant. But if you want to stay not pregnant, you need to follow the instructions on the pills. You also need to know that if you take antibiotics, they can interfere with the pill's ability to work. Which is why I now have an 18-month-old niece--my little sister didn't know that.

Hi.. and I doubt that you are pregnant, however there is always a small chance just because the pill is say 98 effective in preventing pregnancy.
I bet your breasts are tender and hurt due to the pill changing your hormones. Spotting is normal while you are getting used to taking the pill.
The 7 days when you do not take the pills (some women take sugar pills or placebo pills during those 7 days) is indeed when you have your period.
Again, more than likely you are not pregnant. I bet not anyway.

Since you just started taking the pill your body is trying to adjust to it. The side effect can also be from the pill. But just to make sure take pregnant test to make sure. Because if you are pregnant you are doing a lot of harm then good to you body. And make sure you are taking the pills as it is instructed on the guideline paper. Make sure you make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible just in case it continues after a month or so.And i recommend that you still use condom cause the pill does not prevent HIV..Hope this formation was use full.

your period on the pill is your regular period, so yes, if you get your period you are not pregnant.
You must take the pill for 30 days before having sex without another form of birth control.
Yes, It is a possibility b/c the pill was not taken long enough to be effective birth control. Even if he didn't ejaculate in you there is still a chance b/c sperm does come out before that.
When was your last period? If you had sex around 14 days after your period that increases your chances b/c most women ovulate 14 days after their period.
The only thing you can do now is wait. If your period does not come - wait a few days and then get a home pregnancy test. good luck, hun

Well, I am also on the contraceptive pill and as long as you are taking the pill as instructed then you are not pregnant. If you took the pills for seven days, it will already have taken effect by the time you had sex. You are most probably just paranoid, as I am sometimes when I doubt if ive been taking them correctly.
If you are having bleeding during your pill taking days, then it may suggest that you need to go on a stronger pill.
If you miss a pill in the pack, then you will need to take extra contraception as you will be unprotected for the next seven days from when you forgot to take the pill.
If you are ever unsure, just use alternative forms of contraception and then you will have no reason to be paranoid. Or ask your doctor.
hope that helps.

If you think you are pregnant, you shouldn't be taking the pills, and the bleeding is definitely something to look after. Go see a doctor immediately or Planned Parenthood or a clinic. BTW I have a baby girl from my husband who withdrew at the "right time" so keep in mind it doesn't work. And when you go to the doc or PP, ask them about the period on the 7 day free pills.

If you are that concerned about it then maybe you should go see a real doctor who can answer all your questions better than anyone here on the web. You probably shouldn't have unprotected sex either if you are that unsure of the effectiveness of the pills.

There is a chance you may be pregnant. Birth control is not always effective, especially if you've had unprotected sex. The best thing you could do right now, is go see your physician to test for pregnancy.

If you had unprotected after 7 days after you started the pills you shouldn't worry. I'm almost positive that you're not pregnant. I've been on he pill for a year and believe me if you take them everyday you shouldn't worry.
