I live just borderline on a hotspot, I've tried multiple purchased antennas, as well as many home made ones out of cans, bowls, parabolic reflectors, etc. Right now the very best I've found is putting a usb dongle inside of a soup can, (homemade cantenna) but even that is just not reliable.

What is the best high power directional antenna I can buy for $50-$100? Possibly there may be one out there that is so strong that it just barely complies with fcc regulations?

Well the best of them are closer to 200.00 but they work.
http://tranzeo.com or http://defactowireless.com have CPE (customer premise equipment) with radios and antennas built together so you have no coax or connector loss.

These have 250mw radios and 19db antennas. Usable for miles!
Defacto also has antennas by themselves but dont count on home equipment working to do this get a commercial grade receiver.
