that's actually a good question. Mine used to give just 1 and then they'd flip the switch off. 2 shut off notices woulda been heaven, I could've really stretched out my payments then.

They usually send you a "late notice" and then an official "shut-off notice" with an effective date. Not that this matters now, but electric companys don't usually issue shut off notices in the winter.

Last month I lost my cable even though the bill said it was due May 7th. Their excuse was that I had a past due balance but I thougth I had untill the 7th. My phone is off today, and no the electric company does not have to give you 1-2 days notice, Guess what I'm doing this afternoon!

At least 2 and then I pay. After the second one, they claim that the 'termination notice' had 'expired' and the lights could go off at any second.
In the past, I've gotten up to 5 before they got me. They let me get away with not paying for at least 7 months before and my bill got up to almost $700. I'm lucky because they can't shut off my electricity unless they can get into my apartment building and they usually can't unless the door is open for some reason. It's usually locked. hahahaha. I hate them.

I don't don't know if they give you 2 notices. I've gotten 1 a few times, but paid before the date they specified. I know you can phone and make payment arrangements if you can't pay the whole bill by that date. They are usually good about it, because alot of people can't just come up with the full payment by then. Hope you don't get it cut off because then you will have to pay the full bill plus hook-up charges!!

It depends on how big the company is and how much you owe. Most of the time they give you a pink or red bill then a letter warning you. If you don't pay by then you come home to a dark house. Yes I've been there before bad things happen to good people sometimes.

Usually at least one, and the date that you must pay the balance or risk "interruption"..
If you can't pay your bill, call the company ASAP and ask for payment arrangements. They will usually work with you. But don't just assume they will give you any more notice. You might have to pay a big deposit in addition to your past due amount in order to get power turned back on.
Good Luck!
