Not a choice. I didn't choose to be picked on, ridiculed, persecuted, beaten up and abandoned by my friends and family because of who I fell in love with. Who would choose that?

It's a bit of both ie.
1. seems that sexuality is something that is there from birth
2. partners are 'chosen' - just like careers etc.
This works for straights, gays, bi's whatever.
There aint no lifestyle thing, as others have very eloquently put it. Gays, lesbians, bisexuals have kids etc, so parenting / family isn't even straight lifestyle.
And, please do searches before posting questions, as it's sooooooo tiring for people to see the same stuff, over and over. You'll find thousands more answers, mostly saying the same thing. - The majority of lesbian, straight, gay and bisexual people seem to believe that they were born this way.
You want scientific fact - you won't get it. Remember, all scientific theories are just 'best fit' to the known evidence. There is not even 1 sound scientific theory yet concerning sexuality that stands up against the evidence. In the absence of this, asking the people themselves is likely to give you the clearest answer you'll get. See above - 'born this way'.
I say this sincerely as a Psychologist, others are very poor at judging someone else's inner world. Freud did believe that everyone was born with bisexuality and that it can became fixed later. But, this was a long time ago, and no scientific studies have proven this.
So, long answer, to a short concept - seems people are born this way and choose what they do, partners, jobs, hobbies etc. as they go along. And there's no science to prove otherwise.

It has been proved with brain scans that the female frontal lobe is bigger than that of a mans. When a gay mans brain was scanned it was an exact copy of the female brain.

Nature vs. nurture, it hasn't been settled yet. I don't remember making a conscience choice, nor does any other gay person i know. 'we've always felt that way', is what i hear from other gays.
An either/or thing doesn't explain bisexuality at all. Human sexuality is on a spectrum, from gay to straight as Alfred Kinsey (sexual behavior in the Human male) thought.
Studies of identical twins raised apart, show that if one is found to be gay there's a 65% chance that the other will be gay also. this suggests both nature and nurture play some role.

Perhaps Goth is a lifestyle, or fast cars and fast women, but you have no control over who turns you on.

Yes I do think that people are born that way. In studies it show that it is inherit. I have a gay nephew and know one in our family is gay, but in his family on his father side there is Gay's.

i dont believe they are born that way...it isnt like there are so many babies born with a "gay gene"...and the rest arent..i think it is brought on by their lifestyle growing up..i believe that they choose this lifestyle based on what they have seen or heard about it..and they just feel more comfortable around the same sex..
