Does anyone know a good way to prevent Japanese beetles from eating my rose bushes, or a good method of at least making them less apt (and willing) to do so? Every summer I have to remove them daily or else I have practically bare rose bushes. If you have ever dealt with this beetle, you know it is a tenacious little booger who will grip onto your plant practically unto its own death. :P

Yes, the traps are very messy. I have worked in a nursery here in Alabama, and we had to discard millions of them from those traps. Sevin will kill them but you have to reapply every few days as rain and other environmental factors affect it. What we do in the nursery business is kill them with sevin when we can, but let the beetles run their course. They are only out for a month or so and when they go, we cut our roses back in july as by that time they are also affected by black pot onset and look undesirable. Within two weeks they have completely flushed out and look better than ever. For long term use milky spore as it will kill japanese beetle grubs in your yard but it takes a full year to take effect. In a nutshell, you won't kill all of them you can only hope to contain them, which is a task indeed, a daily task.

Don't use a Japanese Beetle trap they will only attract them to your place.

Treat your rose bushes with Seven spray to keep the beetles off.

Then treat your lawn for grubs. They are Japanese Beetle larvae. See the website below:

You need to get a japanese beetle trap. These use scent to lure the beetle into the trap. These are readily available at any nursery or home improvement center.
