Can somebody please put my mind at rest.It is about referencing in a piece of work. I havent been acuused of cheating or anything like that. The piece of work which was questioned by my teacher was this part below, about existing research on blogs and gender.
"When looking at gender, West and Zimmerman (1987) find it is produced by people's interaction with others, and is a continued accomplishment; doing gender is something which people carry out daily. Lawley (2003) asserts that gender differences are prevalent in computer mediated communication.
I thought it would be ok because i have put in the names of the people and the date of the work. However, i didnt put these references in my bibliography. I found this info off the net. I couldnt find many books in the library. My lecturer said that i need to be careful and use my own words but im getting parnoid, thinking she may have gone and spoken to other lectuers. Should i just move on and learn my lesson.

Yeah you should have sited that - otherwise its plagiarism.
Learn your lesson because you can be kicked out of school or the professor has the right to fail you for doing this, even if its just once.

When quoting a source for a reference in written work you should give the full details either as a footnote or as an entry in a bibliography. A brief reference in the text would point the reader to the full attribution.I think that in the case of West and Zimmerman the reference in the text should read (West & Zimmerman, 1987).
The entry in the bibliography should read:
"West, C., & Zimmerman, D. (1987). Doing gender. Gender and Society, 1 (2), 125–151."
An important point to remember is that quoting or copying from one ot two authors without attribution is plagiarism. Doing the same thing from many authors is research!

Hi!
Generally yes, you need to make sure you reference EVERYTHING. So if you've found it on a website, you need to write the name of the website as well as the date and time you looked at the website.
In all honesty it's best to avoid websites altogether unless they are official university websites or actual organisations. Of course, you could still use online journals - most lecturers prefer this to using books, as they are primary sources instead of secondary.
Here is a webpage on how to reference properly:

I doubt very much that your lecturer would have spoken to other lecturers. Best thing to do is move on and learn your lesson!
If ever you're in doubt in the future, go and see your lecturer and ask them to check your references; that's what I do.

Don't worry about it - learn your lesson and move on like you say.
By the way - what on Earth are West & Zimmerman on about?
"gender is produced by people's interaction with others"?!
"Doing gender is something which people carry out daily (sic)"
This is complete gibberish! I think I'd stick to more reliable sources than the Internet - or at least stick to more reputable web-sites!

You need to look at MLA or APA citing whichever applies and you must list the website so she/he can check references. You must list all references in the Work Cited Page.
When you write you support your beliefs with others information.
Go online and check to see how you should have done your paper. Also, professor's oftentimes tell students it is hard to corroborate information online.
In the future check with your online library of your college and the librarian for reference material to support your thesis.
Talk with the professor to see if you could revise your cited information and that you did not know how to do online citing. He/she may let you redo it. Also, there should be a writing area that helps students somewhere at your college.
I had all of my paper's proofread in community college. But, I am sure the same exists at a University.
Good luck to you!!!

The good news is that you didn't claim it as your own -- so I doubt that there will be any charges of plagiarism. The bad news is that you were sloppy in citing the work -- which could affect your grade.
Don't be afraid to talk with your professor about this. I doubt that she is as concerned with this problem as you think. Ask about advice on how to site it properly.
