I have Pc cillin on my computer and there is a protected information block that I have set up to prevent this sort of action, however twice today a window has popped up to inform me that a website which has yahoo in the long name of the site, is asking for my credit card number.

Pc cillin states it has blocked it yet when I go into the anti fraud settings and look at the event log, it says they have been marked as safe?????
Please help me I am worried as We thought we may have a hacker and yet we have tried every possible way to get rid, but our computer is not functioning properly. It keeps freezing and also another user account misteriously appeared under the name ASP.machine.net????
Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of this problem, I have done virus scans and also used pc cillin house call and all that comes up is cookies which I keep deleting. Please can any one offer advice on this and also how to get our computer back to a good working state. Thankyou

OK, there are several things you need to do:

1) turn off System Restore. You do this by going to Accessories..System Tools..System Restore. Turn this off--it's most often not needed and is a place where viruses hide.

2) go to www.grisoft.com and download their AVG anti-virus package. After installation, make sure you have it updated with the most current definitions.

3) I assume you're running Windows XP. Turn off your computer and re-start it in safe mode (which you do by repeatedly pressing either F5 or F8 just after you turn the power back on--you'll get a menu asking you how you want to start up). Once you've booted into safe mode, run the AVG software. This is a *very* aggressive software package and can remove just about anything.

4) Reboot your computer normally. If you're still having problems, continue with the following:
5) Go to
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/progr...
and download HiJackThis. Run the program, which will create a log file. Go to

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

and post your HiJackThis log. You will get an extremely rapid, very precise answer as to whether or not you still have any infections and, if so, exactly what to do.

3) After everything is all cleaned up I recommend installing SpyBot (it's free; just make sure to keep it updated):
http://www.safer-networking.org/

and SpywareTerminator (also free):
http://www.spywareterminator.com/

Good luck!

1 don't store your credit card number on the computer, enter it each time you need it.
2 If your AV has a protected information feature only put a bit of the card number in
3 Get a good malware scanner and use it regularly
Your browser is always sending numbers up to the server, occasionally your protected numbers will appear by random, that isn't serious. If you have flagged only a 4 digit bit of the cc number this happens a few times a week; a 6 or 8 digit fragment will reduce the incidence.

Have you got a firewall other than Windows built in one which ain't brilliant. If not download Zone alarm free version and install that. Then get spybot search and destroy and also ad aware (spyware killers). You can get all these from http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ . run the spyware programmes weekly and your anti virus as well. Hope this helps.

Just for starters, the ASP.machine .net should be ok to delete.
goto control panel/user accounts and remove it.
This is the norm when you install the ms.net framework ok.
As for the rest, you'll find you have a trojan.
Many antivirus cant remove trojans and you'll need to find another way.
You'll also find that many so called trojan removal tools will have trouble also.
So,your best bet is to find a "brute force uninstaller"
a little more info on what your antivirus is calling, what you want to get rid of would help.!!!
if you can find out,get back to me and i might be able to e-mail you a couple of BFU's that i have ok.

may have a virus, download install and run spybot in "safe mode" a few times...also inless you purchase ALOT over the web there should no need to keep this information on your computer, save credit card info in a text document and encrypt it, then when u need it just copy paste into fields...remember run antispyware programs in safe mode to be effective
