You'll get a whole slew of answers about the effectiveness of it, but what it boiled down to was to decrease the tax load on those who could invest in business. The decrease in the upper tax brackets was pretty dramatic. This "trickle-down" effect would, theoretically, boost investment in the creation of new businesses and technologies.
Left-wingers will decry this as simply making rich people richer and doing nothing for the economy. Right-wingers will point to the enormous economic expansions of the mid-80s and all of the 90s as proof of concept.
I would have to side with the righties more than the lefties on this one. The investment capital made available, I think, was largely responsible for the massive technological revolution of that era, fueling both expansions. Ultimately, the steam ran out of things with the dot com crashes of the late 90s, but it was a helluva run.

Reaganomics is the term given to the idea that if taxes were lowered on all working Americans everyone would benefit. Some called it trickle down economics, some called it voodoo economics. What no one can call it is a failure. All working Americans benefited from lower tax rates, being able to keep more of your income for personal use fueled the largest peace time growth in the economy in this countries history. Liberals were the only losers as their call for high taxes on the productive was shown to be nothing but Class warfare. Because of the Reagan tax cuts the federal government collected more revenue than ever before, it was of course impossible for the Democrates in congress to keep their hands off of this money and they spent it like drunken sailors which increased the deficit and the debt to record levels. To this day liberal attempt to rewrite history and place blame on Reagan for these issues. The goals were simple. Trust people with their own money and the economy will grow. Bring more freedoms to more people because they had the resources to enjoy the benefits of our system. Sad to say liberals still fight this common sense tactic. Note that they resist the Bush tax cuts which have also increased federal revenue and grown the economy, it seems they never learn and will never trust the people to be stewards of their own destiny.

Well the middle class sure didn't. Reagan had good ideas but he gets idolized a bit too much. Lets remember the whole entire time he was in office who controlled congress and stopped a lot of his spending. If it were the other way around and republicans were in there I could only imagine how bad it would be right now.

Raising a family was the worse, jobs loss, factory closures and breaking unions sums up who won and who lost.
