Somewhere quiet relaxing, not too full of Brits, good food, beaches, etc etc? Any suggestions?

Here's the place Jill mentioned - she is correct:

You'll want to read our Algarve pages for ideas:

You'd best go over more towards the west - there is a fishing village called Alvor which has the most delightful restaurants where you can sit outside and watch the sun go down. It's not too big a place either yet there is enough to see. The people there are ever so friendly and the food is great. We've been there twice and visited places like Lagos and Portimao, etc. The beach there is so long and sandy and you have the pick of where to sit. The beach at Praia da Rocha is fantastic too although slightly bigger than Alvor but certainly not as big as places like Albufeira. I certainly recommend it.

Lagos (near Western end of Algarve) is a nice town and has access to some lovely areas -- less typically touristy than the other major towns central to the Algarve.

If you don't want too many Brits, though -- you are better off away from the Algarve, maybe further inland or West Coast. (Although Lagos likely less 'Brit' infested than some other resorts)

Carvoiera - a resort called Rocha Brava is lovely. Nice beaches and restaurants, not too commercialised. (Not sure if spelling is right though!)
