Presidential Candidates should make this a plank on their platform. This is a key security issue, and it provides a non-lethal way to inhibit a shooter from harming a big group of people. If there was 1 taser per teacher, then school shootings would be greatly hindered, and maybe deterred.

At the least, it would give people in schools a chance to defend themselves.

No, every teacher should not be required to wear a taser, or carry any other form of protection. However, they should be ALLOWED to carry their choice of protection, including tasers, pepper spray, handguns, etc...

I agree that it would give students and other staff a chance to defend themselves. However, not all teachers would be qualified to carry a form of protection. Some do not have the personality to carry out the use of any type of protective action, therefore, should they actually present a taser or other form of protection and not execute the use, it merely provides another tool/weapon for the intruder.

However, should someone choose to carry a form of protection, most likely they would have the intestinal fortitude to use it if necessary. Therefore, it should be by choice, not by requirement.

No, that's a very bad plan, because it would be extremely easy for a student to steal the taser and use it on the teacher or other students. Yes, the taser isn't usually lethal, but it can cause lasting harm, and there's no real benefit to be gained--it won't have any effect on school shootings. Since a large number of the recent shooters had no care for their own life, they won't be deterred by the threat of a taser. And a student with a gun beats a teacher with a taser 9 times out of ten. And lastly, why should a teacher be, effectively, required to risk their own life to stop a school shooter?

That is a good idea. Very thoughtful. But have you considered the amount of power it puts into the hands of teachers.
They are now allowed to carry a "harmless weapon". What if they were to abuse that power, and use it as a scare tactic with their students? As well, how would the students feel about the shift in power? Their teachers get to carry around tasers, when they can't even play with toy guns, or plastic knives etc?
You have to remember that teachers aren't the only ones under attack in these shootings, the students are as well.
But I think it's a nice thought. Chances of it's success would be high. But I don't know if it'll actually go through. :)

I don't think a teacher would volunteer to get within 15Ft of some nut with a gun. And that is the range, and even then the shot better be good, and the shooter not be wearing a heavy coat or bullet proof vest.

"At the least, it would give people in schools a chance to defend themselves."

Only the teachers...and a poor chance at that against bullets. What about the students? They shouldn't be able to defend THEMselves? How about everyone above the age of consent be REQUIRED to carry a firearm in public (ammo optional)? You'd be amazed how quickly crime would drop if we were all equally armed!

I wouldn't want to have any teacher who doesn't want to carry one have it forced upon them. They already have too much to worry about, like raising the declining educational rate in America.

They (Presidential candidates and the DOE) should have a legislation to secure schools with police and sheriffs that can respond appropriately to the violence we speak of.

Hell, additionally with all the teachers that rapes and molest students maybe we should give tasers to students also. Before they become daddy's by the age of 14, some teachers are also whacked in the head.

I don't think "require" is a good word but I do agree that some definitive form of non-lethal deterrent be made available for both high school and college faculties and staffs.

A taser is good.
I would vote for all teachers being able to carry sidearms.
