Yes, as long as your player chip set can play MP3. DVD is just a media. As long as you play it in a DVD player, it will play. However, the format which the DVD player will play depends on what programs were written into its chip set. Hope that your portable dvd player has the program written installed to play the mp3.

I'd be able to tell you if you'd given me the model number. Some will play mp3s on DVD and CDs, some play mp3 only on CD, some have a card reader so you can play mp3s from an SD card, some even have USB ports so you can plug flash drives into them to play your mp3 and mp4 files, and some don't play mp3s at all.

If you're trying to decide between models, the manufacturers websites should tell you which do and which don't.

Depends on the files. You won't be able to run executables, but the standard dvd player should run movies and music, maybe pictures. It also depends on the make and model of your dvd player. Check the box for details, or the manual if you already bought it.

Only if the portable DVD player says it can.

As an example, here is what is listed for an Insignia 8" portable DVD player. As you can see it can play CD audio, MP3's and also display JPEG pictures....

Playback Formats DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and JPEG
