We are moving all the way across the US from CT to WA. It'll be a week drive not including our stop in IL to see family for acouple days. I am not worried about food/water. What should I do about the housing and heat situation? Since we feed him out of his cage in a box, I don't want it thinking he is being feed, so I don't want to put him in a box. Any suggestions? Thankx

Get him a new box; if he doesn't smell the mice in it, he won't think he's getting fed. He'll probably just think it's a new cave for him. Put in some shredded newsprint (black ink only, colored ink is bad for them) so that he can burrow and feel secure. That's how I transported my corn home, but that was only a two hour trip from the breeders to my house, so I didn't have to provide her with heat. My suggestion for heat is to get a BIG boxish thing, put an instant hotpack (the ones that people use on injuries) or two under one side, no heat on the other side, he should be able to thermoregulate that way. That's my best idea.
He may get upset and go off feed when you get him to his new home, but once he gets used to his new surroundings he should be fine.
DON'T transport him in a glass container, if you go over a bump you'll end up with a broken tank, a lacerated snake, and a huge vet bill.

Hello, not a problem, snakes can go months wo eating just fine..if the weather is warm, chances so will the car be..the thing is to not forget him in the car when you do park..that could bake him in 5 minutes..I'd actually put the snake in a pillow case, tie it securely & carry him in a purse or something - so no one knows what it is when you have to stop & eat, etc..seriously, just carry him with you when you leave the car, especially if it's hot..cars heat up fast with windows rolled up & bake him !!! He may also need some adjusting time after the move..so no worries if he don't eat even for a month or 2.. Take Care :) P.S Gotta funny for this to add..if you carry him in a purse or back pack..beware it might freak out a "Purse Snatcher" ..LOL !!

Is there any possible way that you could ship him ahead? It's going to be really tough to keep him from getting either too warm or too cool in that length of time.
