This is really easy:

Let the third side be a

Therefore, c^2 = a^2 + b^2
=> 14^2 = a^2 + 8^2
=> 196 = a^2 + 64
=> a^2 = 196 - 64
=> a^2 = 132
=> a = 11.49

11.49

a^2 + B^2 = c^2

a^2 + 8^2 = 14^2

a^2 + 64 = 196

a^2 = 132

a^2+8^2=14^2
a^2+64=196
a^2=132
a=11.49

It's a 'twist' on the Pythagorean formula: hypotenuse^2 = (side a)^2 + (side b)^2

since you know the hypot. and side b...

side a = squareroot( hypot^2 - side_b^2)
side a = squareroot (14^2 - 8^2)
side a = squareroot (196 - 64)
side a = squareroot(132)
side a = 11.489125...
