There's not much we know..... Five times the earth's mass and similar in temperature. It could be a gas giant or have no atmosphere or be covered in sulfuric acid and at shuttle speeds it's a mere 800,000 years away..

Well, chief amongst the findings is it's location with respect to it's parent star - water can exist in a liquid state there, and probably second is that it's the *smallest* extra-solar world we've discovered so far, and there's at least 2 other planets in it's solar system. Pretty amazing findings, really, when you consider how far away it is.

Gliese 581 C, is being hyped. due to the fact that it is the correct distance from its star for the temperature to be correct for liquid water to flow there.

There could be alien life on that planet!!

A potential source of new resources to claim and pillage for our purposes. Hopefully there are humanoid beings living there so we can exploit them as cheap labour.
