If you haven't heard, his hip is now messed up and needs major surgery. Instead of risking living a normal life in future, he should just step away now. He's risking it all for nothing, as he has more money than he will ever need and the Leafs stink so much. They can't even make the playoffs, much less contend for a Cup. If Sundin was with a winning team trying to win his first Cup, it would be worth it, but since hes with such a loser franchise, he should just retire. Also, Leafs fans should come to their senses and stop buying tickets, so management actually considers putting a half decent product on the ice. Don't be brainwashed morons believing you have a playoff team and as long as you get in you have a chance to win the cup. It's all media hogwash from Toronto, just like 23958042 trades they come up with every year.

Actually, his agent is now saying that his hip surgery was overexaggerated. And as a Leafs fan living in Toronto, we know that the Leafs suck because of a crappy GM who doesn't know what he's doing and that we won't see a Cup until he goes.

But it's part of our city culture; kind of like how Hollywood big-wigs spend $30 for an appetizer to show their status, financially and socially. That's why the ACC sells out almost every night: too many suits who spend hundreds of dollars for a mid-level seat just to show off. Hey, this is fine with Leafs management because over 50% of the team is owned by the Ontario Teachers' Pension (yes, the Leafs are mostly owned by a bunch of useless Ontario teachers) and all they care about is fattening their retirement funds. If it makes you feel any better, because of this "logic," I hate this city as much as you do (love the team though).

I think you're right. Although as a Leaf fan I would welcome the change I will also miss Mats but I think it's time for this because 1) the team needs a Canadian as the leader (a european has NEVER captained a cup winner) 2) Mats has carried the load for far too long and we can sign three guys with his contract gone 3) team must also make a conscious effort to limit the number of europeans in their line up to no more than 6. (teams with higher number than that NEVER win cup) 4) I'm getting old and I want this team to win before my time expires!

I would agree about his future part but he decides when to retire. Look at Luc Robitaille, Mark Saint Louis, and among others who should retire but don't because they love the game and are very good at it. Another example Chris Chelios. As for the Leafs stinking, grow up. I am from Chicago and any time Toronto comes to town I come to watch because unlike the Blackhawks I like to see how the game should be played. So cry about that when you think of how the Canadiens didn't make the playoffs either WA-

he is a great player that will now probably need to retire because of his hip but the guy had a wonderful career with the Leafs. It is very sad to see it end like this.

Are you kidding ... if he does that, Toronto will free up some money for a half decent player and you know that will never happen
